The Giver

Li recentemente o livro The Giver (O Doador), da escritora estadunidense Lois Lowry. O livro foi vencedor do Newbery Award, e vai virar filme.

Na história, Jonas é um garoto vivendo em um futuro perfeito. Tudo está sob controle, não existe nem guerra, nem fome, medo ou dor, nem lembranças disso. Não existem escolhas. Cada pessoa é designada um papel distinto na comunidade.

Quando ele faz 12 anos, ele é escolhido para receber treinamento especial do Doador. O Doador sozinho mantém as memórias de dor e prazer verdadeiro da vida. E chega a hora de Jonas receber a verdade.

I’ve recently read The Giver, by Lois Lowry. The book has received a Newbery Award, and is now being made into a movie.

In the story, Jonas’s world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. When Jonas turns 12 he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

It’s an excellent read, i promise!
